In addition to years of experience and well-established conference interpretation skills, our conference interpreters are required to familiarize themselves with the specialized vocabulary and terminology of each conference they are assigned to. This ‘terminological preparation’ requires that the interpreters be given access to background documents, minutes of previous meetings and speeches well ahead of the event, and it is a critical consideration. Capital Typing will not consider assigning conference interpreters without ‘terminological preparation’.

Each conference interpreter, of course, works in a single language combination. The language into which a conference interpreter translates (known as Active Language) is his or her mother tongue, while the language from which he or she interprets (Passive Language) is a language he or she has an absolute understanding of. In some cases, Capital Typing’s conference interpreters may work with two Passive Languages.
